Preparations are under way for the August 31 International Overdose Awareness Day, auspiced by Penington Institute.

Frontline health services and community organisations are preparing to hold events to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths.

Overdose Day also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have met with death or permanent injury as a result of drug overdose.

Recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day continues to grow. Last year, for example, it was acknowledged by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
