Rob Knowles is a former Victorian Minister of Health, Housing and Aged Care. His leadership roles include chair of the boards of the Royal Children’s Hospital, the Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia, and the Victorian Health Innovation and Reform Council. He is also a member of the Brotherhood of St Laurence board.
Rob shares Penington Institute’s underlying philosophy of harm minimisation.
As Health Minister, he commissioned Professor David Penington’s review of drug policy and oversaw increased funding of services and policy reforms. His work alerted him to the co-morbidity of mental health and drug dependence problems, and the need to integrate services to meet those combined needs.
“By building a system around a recovery model and harm minimisation, addressing mental health and drug dependence problems, we can support people to recover and enable them to lead a contributing life.”
