Penington Institute holds event in Geelong aimed at reducing the Barwon region’s drug overdose rate

The recently released Australian Annual Overdose Report revealed there were 92 deaths from overdose in Geelong between 2011 and 2015, slightly more than 20 per cent above the national average for the same period.

A Pharmaceutical Risk and Response Seminar has been specially designed to support the region’s health workers address the issue of overdose in the community.

Held by the Penington Institute and funded by the State Government’s Naloxone Subsidy Initiative, the event aims to address findings in the report which highlighted the increasing rates of accidental overdose due to the use of opioid-based drugs.
