Secure Dispensing Units – a guide for Victorian needle and syringe programs
Secure Dispensing Units (SDUs)—often referred to as syringe vending machines—help to increase access to sterile injecting equipment for people who are unable or unwilling to access a staffed needle and syringe program (NSP). They are commonly used to augment existing staffed services. Penington Institute has put together a guide to SDUs for NSPs in Victoria. The guide provides information on what SDUs are, how they work and how to assess whether your local area could benefit from one. We have also included a survey template for local people who inject drugs and a draft project proposal and implementation plan.
