Penington Institute CEO John Ryan discusses new research showing most Victorians are in favour of cannabis regulation over criminalisation.
In this Herald Sun article, journalist Robyn Riley reports on Penington Institute’s recent survey of 1500 Victorians on their perspectives on cannabis reform.
The survey found that 54% of Victorians are in favour of decriminalising cannabis with a regulated market for adult use. Just 21% saying they thought current laws were working to address harm from drugs. See our research here.
The call for cannabis reform
Penington Institute CEO John Ryan says this is the highest level of support for regulation over criminalisation shown in an Australian independent survey.
“The community wants change,” Ryan says.
“Our research shows they are in favour of a model of careful, sensible cannabis regulation.
“Less arrests means fewer resources wasted, and less harm to otherwise law-abiding community members.”
