Australia’s medicinal cannabis market is surging, and data revealed in our new Cannabis in Australia 2024 report makes an increasingly compelling case to regulate cannabis for personal use.
In this article, Australians expected to spend $1 billion on medical cannabis this year as use of drug rockets, 9 News Senior Journalist Sarah Swain says the new data is fuelling calls for cannabis policy reform.
“The trend towards a less punitive approach to cannabis use is highlighted in Victoria, where the most recent data shows a majority of Victorians support a regulated adult cannabis-use model.
“About 66 per cent supported drug education for young people rather than punishment, while just 15 per cent had the opposing view.”
Ryan says it’s time for safe cannabis regulation – and that such a model is achievable for Victoria.
"I think if we learn from our mistakes in relation to tobacco, learn from our mistakes in relation to alcohol, we could actually have a regulated adult use cannabis market in Australia."
